Australia

Australia's currency is the Australian dollar, or "buck", divided into 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of $100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of $2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10 and 5 cents.

Exchange facilities are available for all incoming and outgoing flights at all international airports in Australia. International-class hotels will exchange major currencies for guests. You'll have no problems changing foreign currencies or cash at any bank or exchange bureau.

If you're travelling from Europe or the USA, Australia is pretty easy on the wallet. travel will be your biggest expense - distances are huge - so if you're moving around a bit, eating out once or twice a day and staying in budget hotels, plan for upwards of A$90.00 a day.

Australia is well set up for independent travellers, and with a student, YHA or a backpackers' card (see "Accommodation") you can get discounts on a wide range of transport and entertainment.
